Our Story

Salem VA Credit Union was originally chartered on March 5, 1936 as The Veterans Administration Hospital Federal Credit Union.  Twelve employees of the facility placed $5 into a cigar box, in the hopes of achieving financial stability.

In 2003 the charter was expanded to include to those who live, work, or worship in the cities of Salem, Roanoke, Vinton, as well as Roanoke County.

In 2007 the credit union opened its first branch off of the VAMC campus, that branch is located in the Southwest Plaza on the corner of Route 419 and Grandin Road Extension.

Salem VA Credit Union opened its third branch in November of 2010. Located at 112 West Main Street in downtown Salem, this branch added the convenience of a drive thru.

We continue to serve the VA Medical Center that represented our original field of membership as well as those in the community. We are focused on being there for our members. Stop in to see us at any of our three locations and let us help you achieve your goals for today as well as the future.
