North Fork Bank Phishing Scam
A member has notified Salem VA Credit Union of a recent email she received. The email (seen below) claims it is from North Fork Bank and requests personal information from an account holder. This is a phishing scam, and the instructions in the email should not be followed.

North Fork Bank holds Salem VA Credit Union’s settlement clearing account for Fidelity, our check clearinghouse. You may be familiar with their name for this reason. However, we have not and do not provide them with our members’ email addresses. The only information they receive is that which is necessary to process checks sent to them.

As always, neither Salem VA Credit Union nor North Forks Bank will ever ask you for personal information via email. In fact, any email or phone call requesting personal information such as social security numbers, bank account numbers, birth dates and passwords should be considered with care.

Do not hesitate to contact us directly should you have any concerns about this phishing scam or if you have information regarding other scams. At Salem VA Credit Union, we’re here for you, no matter what the problem.
